A Review of Diabetes for Dummies

Educating oneself on diabetes is an important factor in the management of diabetes. Luckily, there are lots of resources out there. One of the best is a book called Diabetes for Dummies by Alan L. Rubin. This book is a member of the popular For Dummies book series, which is a collection of how-to and informational books on a wide variety of subjects. This book offers 408 pages of helpful and useful information on diabetes and how to cope with it.
Part I is called Dealing with the Onset of Diabetes. In these first three chapters, you'll learn more about the various types of diabetes, what diabetes is and how it is dealt with. Part II is called How Diabetes Affects Your Body. This part contains Chapters 3, 4 and 5. Subject matter covered in Part II includes how to battle short-term complications, how to prevent long-term complications, and how diabetes can affect pregnancy and sexual function.
Part III is called Managing Diabetes: The Thriving with Diabetes Lifestyle Plan. Chapter 7 talks about glucose monitoring and other tests used in the management of diabetes. In Chapter 8, you'll learn how to devise the proper diabetes diet plan. Chapter 9 is all about the importance of exercise for diabetics. Chapter 10 teaches you about medications for diabetics. In Chapters 10 and 11, you'll learn more about managing your condition and putting what you've learned to work for you.
In Part IV, you'll learn more about special considerations related to diabetes. Chapter 13 talks about what to do and how to cope if your child has diabetes. In Chapter 14, diabetes and the elderly is addressed. Occupational and insurance issues are covered in Chapter 15. Chapter 16 is all about new innovations in the world of diabetes care. In Chapter 17, you'll learn what doesn't work for treating diabetes and what to avoid. Part V is the Part of Tens and contains Chapters 18 through 20. You'll discover ten ways to prevent or reverse the effects of diabetes, ten diabetes myths and ten ways to get others to help you manage your condition.
